Mass of Christian Burial for Anna will be on Wednesday, January 30, 2019 at 10:00 a.m. at the St. Charles Catholic Church in Bowman. Fr. Paul Eberle will celebrate the Mass with burial to follow in the Bowman Cemetery. There will be a Rosary and Vigil Service on Tuesday, January 29, 2019 at the St. Charles Catholic Church beginning at 7:00 p.m.Anna Kathrein passed away on January 26, 2019, three weeks shy of her 88th birthday.Anna Johanna (Klein) was born on February 18, 1931 in a farmhouse near Dodge, North Dakota. On the same day, she was baptized at St. Martin’s Catholic Church, which was less than a mile away from her home. Anna was the second of eight children born to Leo Klein Sr. and Teresa (Kohm) Klein.During her childhood, Anna helped her mother with gardening, cooking, and taking care of her younger siblings. She attended a rural elementary school until the eighth grade and graduated from Dodge High School in 1949. Anna also attended two summer sessions at Dickinson State College. Afterwards, she spent two years teaching at rural schools and then worked as a cashier and payroll clerk at the Dickinson Montgomery Ward store.During her time in Dickinson, Anna met her future husband, Jack Kathrein. They were married on October 14, 1951 at St. Martin’s Catholic Church. After the wedding, they moved to a farm just outside of Amidon, North Dakota where they lived and raised four daughters. Anna taught in Amidon-area schools for two years and helped Jack with the farm work. During the summer, she grew flowers and raised a garden and chickens. In 1961, Anna took a part time position as a deputy for the Slope County Register of Deeds. Eighteen years later, she was elected to that office and also served as a courts clerk. She retired from Slope County in 1995. In retirement, she took trips with her family, visited her grandchildren, and continued helping Jack on the farm.When she wasn’t working at the courthouse or on the farm, Anna was involved in her church and comm...
